An energy audit is the best way to find out where your home needs improvements to save energy and feel comfortable. An energy auditor from Energeyes uses proven building science and technology to identify air leaks, ineffective insulation and leaky ductwork that can make your home unhealthy and drafty.
What is an Energy Audit?
Energeyes’ comprehensive energy audit is a complete technical analysis of your home to address comfort, safety and energy usage. Like a doctor conducting a physical exam, our certified energy auditors conduct rigorous examination and diagnostics to identify specific areas in need of improvements. We approach your home as a unique system and examine each component to ensure the system is operating at peak performance.
Understanding Your Goals & Your Home
Before beginning the audit process, we’ll ask you about the home’s history, improvements, problems and your goals for home upgrades. This unique information helps us provide relevant and effective solutions to meet your needs.
Steps for Energy Audit Analysis
An Energeyes technician starts each home energy audit with a complete visual inspection—from the crawlspace to the attic, inside and out. During this process, we identify any health and safety issues, as well as cataloging visible air leaks or insulation flaws.
Building Science Tools
Once the visual inspection is complete, the technician will then set up several diagnostic tools to analyze your home’s systems, including:
Blower Door Test – We will temporarily install this high-powered fan system into an exterior access door opening. When the fan activated, it depressurizes the house, magnifying any air leakage and allowing us to calculate the exact overall air leakage of your home.
Infrared Thermal Imaging is used to identify temperature differences while the blower door is operating to pinpoint hidden gaps, cracks or missing insulation that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Additional tools and tests can be applied to analyze individual rooms and ductwork to locate other energy robbing leaks.
Energy Load Mapping — This diagnostic measures and maps each electrical circuit to pinpoint appliances and electrical issues that draw excessive energy loads.
Benchmarking & Evaluation
Once we’ve completed the testing, we analyze the results to identify a list of improvements. The results will be included in our energy audit report detailing options and pricing the next steps.
Three Options for Energy Audits
We have found that our three levels of energy audits provide the “just right” amount of analysis for our customers.
Basic Energy Audit — Includes a complete physical inspection, a blower door test to check for air leakage and a safety check ($150 + tax).
Intermediate Energy Audit — Adds advanced diagnostics and infrared thermal imaging to the basic level ($295 + tax).
Advanced Energy Audit — Provides all intermediate level analysis plus electrical mapping throughout the home ($600 + tax).
Benefits of an Energy Audit
It’s necessary for a doctor to know what the patient's unique problems are before he begins surgery. For the home audit technician, it’s necessary to understand your home’s unique areas of deficiency before beginning energy improvements. Energeyes’ energy audit gives you the technical diagnosis to fix the problems. We also determine the right steps to take to ensure your family's health and safety. An energy audit is essential to properly address your home’s energy usage.
