At Energeyes, our home performance experts have looked at moisture control in hundreds of basements and crawlspaces. In fact, the majority of homes in our area have crawlspaces with unsealed dirt floors. It was once thought that merely venting crawlspaces would provide enough air circulation, but research shows that as much as 40% of a home’s indoor air comes from a damp, unsealed crawlspace.

Unwanted Home Moisture Causes Problems

Moisture in your crawlspace can have many sources and can cause many problems in your home, including:

  • Structural damage from rotting wood and insects

  • Ineffective, compacted or wet insulation between floor joists

  • Health issues from contaminants including mold, dust mites & allergens

  • Unpleasant smells and damp living areas

Solutions for Moisture Problems

When Energeyes sends one of their moisture remediation experts to your Rolesville, NC area home, we’ll take a look at all the possible causes for excess humidity in your crawlspace. We’ll look at the source of the moisture and offer options for reducing excess water including installing:

How Vapor Barriers Protect Home & Health

Vapor barriers are made from heavy-duty plastic, much thicker than a trash bag but similar in composition. Once the crawlspace has been cleaned up and any drainage issues have been taken care of, a vapor barrier is applied to keep water away and avoid moisture which causes damage.

Plastic vapor retarder may be applied to the dirt floor of a crawlspace, to the cement or wood footings and foundation and to the underside of floors, including ductwork, joists and insulation. Once the vapor barrier is carefully applied and seams are sealed, moisture can be prevented from penetrating and causing problems. Vapor barriers are used in crawlspace encapsulation along with other sealants to completely seal off the crawlspace area from any outside moisture or air.

Vapor barriers keep moisture from causing damage to your home and your health. Contact us for vapor barrier solutions for your crawlspace.
